All ECMC drivers had a great time!

The inaugural running of the Eastern Canadian Micro Championship was held on February 10-12 in Ottawa, Canada. Hosted by the RC Ottawa club (www.rcottawa.com), the event was attended by micro car and truck racers from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. There were 35 entries spread among 4 classes, keeping some racers very busy running up to 3 classes. Everyone had a very good time at this event that was aimed not only at good competition, but also having fun. With that being one of our most important criteria, our expectations were far exceeded!

There were 3 classes for micro cars to give a speed fix for everyone's tastes: Stock Micro (5-cell, micro stock motor, rubber tires), Pro Micro (6-cell, brushed micro motor, any tires), and the insanely-fast Open Micro (any batteries, any motor, any tires). A separate Micro Truck class rounded up the venues. In the car classes, the XRAY M18 was the â€weapon of choice’ for the vast majority of racers, and some of their tricked-out M18s were very impressive.

The Stock Micro class was run on a technical, dedicated micro track, and racing was extremely close; this was the largest class of the weekend. The very-fast Pro Micro and insanely-fast Open Micro classes were able to stretch their legs on a 1/10-size track with long straight; some of the Open Micro cars were unbelievably quick - faster than open modified 1/10 sedans! If you blinked you sometimes missed the action. The Micro Truck class was run on the inner part of the 1/10 track, where jumps, bumpy infield, and long fast straight made for challenging, exciting driving and marshalling action.

With the racing over, the surprises and smiles kept coming as all participants received some incredible prizes! A very big "Thank you" goes out to all those who graciously sponsored this event.

Everyone had a great time at this event, made new friends, had GREAT competition, and most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun… just the way RC racing should be. With the resounding success of this inaugural event, we all look forward to next year.
